Repeal and replace

The National Anthem.

"The Star-Spangled Banner." Too martial.

"This Land Is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful." More uplifting and far easier to sing, although the latter may not be sufficiently secular.

It should have been Woody's song all along:

Repeal & replace

The Star-Spangled Banner:

Too martial.

And "This Land Is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful" are more uplifting and far easier to sing.

quote unquote: William Dean Howells on American virtue

"What a thing it is
to have a country
that can't be wrong,
but if it is,
is right, anyway!"

-- William Dean Howells.

quote unquote: Hume on Patriotism and Tyranny

Mankind are, in all ages, caught by the same baits: The same tricks, played over and over again, still trepan them. The heights of popularity and patriotism are still the beaten road to power and tyranny; flattery to treachery; standing armies to arbitrary government; and the glory of God to the temporal interest of the clergy. – David Hume, “Of Public Credit,” Essays Moral, Political and Literary (1754)
